I’m a gambling expert who won £2.5million at the Cheltenham Festival… here’s my GOLDEN RULE for bagging a big winner
A gambling expert who won £2.5million at Cheltenham has revealed his golden rule.
Richard Brocklebank – who wrote a book about his incredible win – believes the best way to take home a fortune is to “get the value”.
He urged Brits to place their bets on the day of the races.
Richard, 57, from Hyde, Cheshire, said: “For those poking around at the Cheltenham Festival which starts next Tuesday, my golden rule is preserve the value.
“Ante-post flapping upfront used to be a fabulous way to generate value, but today the value of ante-post isn’t there at all for the man on the street.
“I would now say that the best value for money is on the day of the race itself, as bookmakers of all types offer extra places in many races and very often push prices up a bit too.
“Sometimes the special offers are so good that you can’t bet on anything.
“The ante-post punt is often overtaken by events where horses are declared non-runners after standing on a rock or injuring themselves while cantering.”
Richard won £1,519,301 on horse From Dawn To Dusk.
And after one more race, Cheltenham secured him a £115.00 Scoop6 win followed by a £804,000 bonus.

With nearly £2.5million bagged thanks to Cheltenham winners, the track holds a special place in his heart.
Richard’s syndicate has always looked for value and the longshot to help them land the big wins.
The author – who was thrilled when legendary jockey Frankie Dettori penned the foreword for his book – added: “Don’t be afraid to just watch a race – if you can’t see or appreciate the value of competition, let it be Get a boat perspective and just enjoy the spectacle.
“Nothing gets the blood pumping in sport like a bunch of top quality Thoroughbreds flying over the fences and fences in the Cotswolds in March – they are the best of the best.”
In his book entitled £3million in 3 weeks: The Squirrel Syndicate, the author recalls having a life-changing thrill ride with William Hill at the Cheltenham Festival Trials Day at the age of 21 for £2.50 each way had.
