“I’m A Man, I’m 40!” – Mike Gundy Defends Quarterback With Epic Rant 15 Years Ago Today

Undoubtedly one of the most iconic moments in college football history.

In 2007, Mike Gundy was the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys and at the press conference following their 4th game of the season, an electrifying 48-45 win over Texas Tech, he ripped through the media with an article in the morning paper about Bobby Reid, the opening day starter who had been benched after a tough loss to Troy the week before.

You’ve probably listened to these rants 100 times by this point in your life, but I’m telling you, it just keeps getting better…

“Come after me! I’m a man! I am 40! I am not a child!”

Isn’t that the kind of coach the kid wants to play for? Who will blame themselves and lead through battles always putting the team first, but not at the expense of player breakdown?

That’s probably why he’s been in the state of Oklahoma for so long. Heck, he was a quarterback himself for the Cowboys from 1986-1989, played with none other than the great Barry Sanders, joined the coaching staff as an assistant from 1990-2000, was named offensive coordinator in 2001, and then was promoted to head coach in 2004 , where he’s stayed ever since and apparently isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

But regardless of his success on the field, he will always be best known for that epic moment…

Listen to it…

And if they play that in the dressing room before their next game against Baylor, give me Cowboys BY A MILLION.

I would run through a wall for this man…
