“Increasingly More Likely” That Donald Trump Will Be Indicted: Former AG Bill Barr

Former Attorney General Bill Barr said Friday it was “increasingly likely” Trump would be impeached.

Barr’s claim came shortly after Attorney General Merrick garland announced a special counsel to lead two investigations into the former president donald trumpwho said he would not “participate” in the probes.

“If the Justice Department can show that these are indeed very sensitive documents, which I think they probably were, and also show that the President was knowingly involved in misleading the Department into telling the government Cheating and playing games after receiving the subpoena for the documents are the serious charges,” Barr said in a PBS interview on Friday.

garland appointed Jack Smith, whose background includes investigating and prosecuting war crimes in The Hague, as a special prosecutor on Friday to oversee two investigations: one into handling classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago and one into aspects of a May 6 investigation January, including efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the Capitol riot. Smith said Friday, “The pace of the investigation will not continue or slow under my supervision.”

“The Department of Justice has long recognized that in certain exceptional cases, it is in the public interest to appoint a special attorney to independently direct an investigation and prosecution… The exceptional circumstances here call for it,” Garland said.

Later Friday, Trump called Garland’s move a “appalling announcement today by the tremendously corrupt Biden administration and its armed Justice Department.”

“I’ve never heard of anything like this. They found nothing. I announce and then they appoint a special attorney,” the former president added when announcing his 2024 White House run on Tuesday. “I’ve been going through this for six years — I’ve been going through this for six years and I’m not going through it anymore.”

“It’s a shame and it’s only happening because I’m bipartisan in every poll,” Trump said. Despite his claims, a number of mega-donors have indicated they will divorce Trump to support another potential Republican nominee for 2024, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, The hill reported.
