IND vs AUS 2022: “You can’t persist with him for long saying he is your best bowler”

Rajkumar Sharma, a former Delhi cricketer and Virat Kohli’s youth coach, was somewhat taken aback that Indian captain Rohit Sharma repeatedly trusted Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the event of his death.

The first T20I against Australia in Mohali on Tuesday (20 September) was the third straight Bhuvneshwar losing in the final overs runs. The Men in Blue have lost all three of those games.

In past press conferences, Rohit has defended the Pacer, stating that his experience is vital to the team. However, Rajkumar believes it is time for team management to look beyond reputation and make some tough decisions.

Speaking to India News Sports, the ex-Delhi cricketer has this to say about Bhuvneshwar’s form:

“Rohit Sharma seems to have great faith in Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But if he keeps making runs, you can’t long insist that he’s your best bowler.”

Rajkumar continued:

“Having been uncovered at the Asian Cup and now against Australia, it’s probably time to rethink strategies and understand how to make the most of the available squad.”

Team India’s bowlers certainly weren’t brave enough: Rajkumar Sharma

Rajkumar Sharma thinks Indian bowlers have been a bit coy since the 2022 Asia Cup. He has challenged them to adopt an attacking mode and bowl with the intention of capturing wickets.

To this Rajkumar said:

“We have to change our thinking. Anyone can be hit for runs in T20s, but at the very least you should intend to pick wickets. Our bowlers are certainly not brave enough.”

He added:

“Defensive bowling like that won’t help you in flat lanes against quality opponents. You need to develop variations and have a proper plan on how you’re going to take wickets.”

India has some concerns here. But patience is also important. Major bowlers are coming back from injuries and will need a few games to get into the groove. I hope @yuzi_chahal credits to his tempo variation strength which helped him and the team to succeed.

There has been much talk about Rohit’s captaincy as the reason for the team’s loss to Australia. But Rajkumar believes the captain cannot be credited for such a result. He added:

“When you lose a game, there’s a lot of blame. But you can’t pick the captain for losing because the coach and the bowling coach are equally involved in planning the deployment of different bowlers.”

Rajkumar continued:

“I just hope Bumrah stays fit for the World Cup otherwise India will be in big trouble.”

Rohit Sharma and co. meet Australia in the second T20I in Nagpur on Friday (September 23).
