IND vs ENG 2022: “If a player is in form, then his position shouldn’t be tinkered with”- RP Singh on Suryakumar Yadav

Former Indian left-arm pacesetter RP Singh thinks in-form hitter Suryakumar Yadav should be India’s No. 4 at ODIs.

The 31-year-old posted a brilliant 117 in the last T20I and he looked like a great choice for India’s much-discussed two-down place. However, Rishabh Pant batted in that position at Lord’s and failed to trouble the scorers. Yadav came in 5th and scored 27 (29), unfortunately hacking one on his stumps.

Speaking to Cricbuzz ahead of the third ODI, RP Singh explained why constantly changing a batter’s position in the lineup could affect his form. He said:

“I think Suryakumar Yadav should definitely beat in 4th place. Back to the time when Virat Kohli, who was best in 3rd place, sometimes shuffled to the top of the leaderboard and sometimes Rahul played in that position.”

Singh added:

“If a player is in form then their position shouldn’t be tinkered with at this point.”

I’m really enjoying how Suryakumar Yadav’s career is progressing. Once Rahul returns to ODI it might be difficult to find a spot but he makes a great impression on any given opportunity.

The 36-year-old also believes the visitors must make a point of consolidating their innings and building partnerships as they lose wickets in clusters. He continued:

“England understood that when a wicket fell they had to hit deep and build partnerships. India may need to follow this template.”

RP Singh further said:

“You can’t just assume what runs will be scored by looking at the average on a given floor. The weather at that point is also crucial. 300 runs isn’t possible in every game and both teams will be careful with that. “

RP Singh believes England will remain unchanged

England will certainly be buoyed up after their emphatic 100-run victory in their second ODI. Although captain Jos Buttler hasn’t been quite under the runs, RP Singh doesn’t think the hosts will make any changes to their batting squad. He explained:

“I don’t think he (Buttler) is going to make many changes (in batting order). They made it clear in the second game with the same team that this is their best XI and this is their batting lineup bowling offense. They are also known for sticking to a certain approach for a long time.

The third ODI between the two teams will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday (July 17). IND vs ENG 2022: “If a player is in form, then his position shouldn’t be tinkered with”- RP Singh on Suryakumar Yadav
