IND vs WI 2022: Dinesh Karthik on team goals for 4th T20I

Veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has explained that one of India’s main goals in the fourth T20I against West Indies would be to seal the series with a win. He admitted the men in blue need to adapt quickly to Florida conditions, which they failed to do on the second T20I in St Kitts.

India and West Indies meet in Lauderhill, Fla. on Saturday (6 August) in the fourth T20I of the five-game series. The Indians lead the series 2-1 after winning the first and third T20Is.

The visitors’ only loss of the series came in the second game at St Kitts when they tied for 138 while Obed McCoy won 6 for 17. Ahead of the fourth T20I, Karthik said of the Gates of India:

“We would love to end the series with a win.” He added: “We all know how good the West Indies are. But one of the most important things we’re told is that in the first game when we went to St Kitts we probably didn’t adapt to the conditions as quickly as we would have liked.”

He continued:

“Here in Miami we will try to understand the conditions and then the situation and try to put in a good performance.”

Team India started the T20I series with a match in Tarouba, Trinidad before moving to St Kitts for the next two matches. They will wrap up the tour with two games in Florida. When asked about the challenges of playing in different conditions, Karthik replied:

“One of the main things that Rohit (Sharma) and Rahul (Dravid) Bhai talked about early on in this series was adaptability. So far we have been quite successful in understanding the situations.”

After suffering a shocking five-wicket defeat in the second T20I, India came back well to win the third game by seven wickets and take a 2-1 lead in the series.

“The wind will be a huge factor” – Dinesh Karthik on the challenge of playing in Florida

Team India doesn’t have much experience playing games in Florida. They have taken on the West Indies in four on-site games so far. On the conditions and challenges he expects, the 37-year-old said:

“I think in Miami the wind will be a big factor. Despite being a sport played with a heavy ball, the wind often dictates where you hit the shots as it tends to carry towards the fielders and not cross the line. On the other hand, it helps you hit bigger sixes than you actually hit. It works both ways.”

Of the four games that India and West Indies have played at Lauderhill, the men in blue have won two and lost one, while one game remained unbeaten.
