IND vs WI 2022: “He is a ruthless cricketer, whenever he scores runs or takes wickets, India win 90% of their games”

Former all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi believes that alongside an in-form, fully toned Hardik Pandya, India are a serious contender for the 2022 T20 World Championship. The all-rounder has turned things around in terms of fitness and has consistently contributed across departments.

Since making a comeback to the national team after the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) Pandya has recorded his first T20I fifties as well as his best bowling figures (4/33). The Baroda all-rounder was also tasked with the men’s blue in the T20I series with two games against Ireland in July.

Describing Pandya as an intelligent cricketer who trusts his game, Sodhi told India News Sports:

“Pandya is a player who goes out on the field and uses his brain and plays his own game. He is a ruthless cricketer, whenever he scores runs or wins wickets, India wins 90% of their matches. He knows how to win out of difficult situations. One of the main reasons India are a serious contender for the World Cup is that Pandya has regained its form.”

The all-rounder worked on his fitness after a memorable campaign during the 2021 T20 World Championship. Not part of the tour of South Africa or the long home season, he appeared in the IPL where he led the Gujarat Titans (GT) to victory in their debut season.

“Even with the Delhi Capitals, Pant wants to play 4th” – Saba Karim on Team India’s wicketkeeper ambitions

Rishabh Pant’s batting position has changed frequently lately. The wicketkeeper batter was tried as an opener during the tour of England. With Suryakumar Yadav now being tested at the top of the order, Pant has occupied the No. 4 batsman spot during the ongoing tour of West India.

Noting that Pant wanted to open the innings for the Delhi Capitals (DC), chief franchise scout and former cricketer Saba Karim said during the same interaction:

Pant also wants to play fourth place for the Delhi Capitals. He actually wants to open the innings, but was talked out of it.

Karim commended Pant for his alert tapping in the third T20I, adding:

“He played good innings, played intelligently and that’s what we expect from him in the future.”

The southpaw played second fiddle to the in-form Suryakumar and chased the target with an over to spare. He went unbeaten on 33 of 26 deliveries and marked his first 30-over score in ten innings.
