Former Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is unhappy with Indian pacesetter Avesh Khan’s consecutive poor performances. After conceding 31 runs in just 2.2 overs in the second T20I against the West Indies, the 25-year-old gave away 47 runs from three overs in Tuesday’s next game.
Avesh now has a T20I career economy rate of 9.11, which is very high. Kaneria believes that the pacer from Madhya Pradesh might not get consistent chances in the Indian team at the moment with talented bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Harshal Patel.
In a video on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, Denmark’s Kaneria explained why the next games are crucial for Avesh Khan’s career. The 41-year-old said:
“Avesh Khan is losing too many runs and the economy rate goes up from 10 to 12 to 15.7 runs per over last night, which is too much. I think he’s losing his footing and may have to give way to the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Harshal Patel and even Jasprit Bumrah once he’s back. If he plays the last two T20Is he needs to step up and do well in Zimbabwe too.”
Denmark’s Kaneria liked the idea of the Men in Blue adding Deepak Hooda to the starting XI. However, he was surprised that the all-rounder only managed to score once despite conceding just one run:
“Deepak Hooda came in for Jadeja and conceded just one run in the opening over. It was weird that he stopped bowling because they could have gotten more overs out of him.”
Danish Kaneria want Kuldeep Yadav back in the Indian team
Denmark’s Kaneria believes left-arm wrist twister Kuldeep Yadav should be brought back into the team in place of experienced Ravichandran Ashwin for the final two T20Is in Florida.
The 41-year-old also pointed out the importance of giving a bowler like Kuldeep the security and confidence to get the best out of him. To this end he stated:
“Kuldeep Yadav should play the next game and Ashwin should be rested. Ashwin has played three games and now you know what to expect from him. But if you play Kuldeep and if he takes wickets this season it will blow his confidence Indian selectors can then also consider the possibility of unleashing the Kuldeep-Chahal partnership at the Asian Cup, with the likes of Ashwin and Jadeja in the Vicinity.”
With India still needing another win to seal the series against West Indies, it will be interesting to see if they make any changes for the fourth T20I.
