A fine unbeaten 46 by captain Rohit Sharma aided Axar Patel’s stingy spell as Team India defeated Australia by six wickets to level their three-match streak in a rain-shortened eight-over match at Nagpur on Friday 24 September.
After Axar got some much-needed Toss luck, Axar’s two-wicket burst slowed down the Aussie innings. But a late run of sixes from the in-form Matthew Wade propelled the visitors to a competitive 90/5 in eight overs. In response, Rohit led from the front before Dinesh Karthik ended the final in the final game.
Here are India’s player ratings (out of 10) for the second T20I against Australia.
IND vs. AUS 2022: Harshal expensive, Bumrah impressive for India
KL Rahul: 6/10
Rahul hit a delightfully flicked six across the midwicket but lost his stumps to Adam Zampa in the third over.
Rohit Sharma: 9.5/10
India’s batting side star Rohit sliced and pulled his way to a batting-filled unbeaten 46. He also got most things right with his captaincy.
Virat Kohli: 6.5/10
Kohli meant business and hit two well-timed fours on the ground, but ran down the pitch to his nemesis Zampa, losing his leg stump in the process. He was all over the field, shooting a hard chance at depth but immediately making up for it with an excellent throw to pass Cameron Green.
Suryakumar Yadav: 1/10
SKY only lasted one ball and played a sweep to a ball that was way too full for the shot.
Hardik Pandya: 6.5/10
Hardik’s first over threatened to produce wickets but cost 10 runs. His run-a-ball 9 helped India, but he couldn’t see through the chase.
Dinesh Karthik: 10.10
DK, the finisher, finally showed up after a long time and cold-heartedly put India home with a six and a four.
Axar Patel: 9/10
Axar’s great spell in which he castled the dangerous duo of Glenn Maxwell and Tim David was the turning point of the first innings. The left arm spinner seems to be in a rich streak of bowling form.
Rishabh pants: 5/10
Pant was brought in to improve hitting and had nothing to do. He gets a standard rating.
Harshal Patel: 2/10
For the second game in a row, Harshal was pathetically expensive. He dropped 32 runs in the two overs he threw at death as Matthew Wade once again took a special liking to him. India will worry about the form of their returning fast bowler.
Yuzvendra Chahal: 4/10
Chahal conceded 12 runs in his only over, costing him his only flighted delivery of the match. Flying the ball was an odd decision, with speed through the air proving to be an ally of the spinners in Nagpur.
Jasper Bumrah: 7.5/10
A few prominent Yorkers drew a few chuckles from the crowd as Bumrah returned after a long hiatus. A break in the middle would have helped him enormously.
