Team India pacer Harshal Patel has been ruled out for the second and third T20Is against the West Indies because of a rib injury. Even in the first game, which the men in blue won with 68 runs, the 31-year-old was not in the starting XI.
India meets the Windies in the second T20I of five games on Monday (1 August) in St Kitts. The hosts won the toss and decided to bowl first.
While sharing India’s XI for the game, the BCCI also provided an update on Harshal. The Indian Cricket Board’s official Twitter handle read:
“Team News – Harshal Patel has a rib injury and is unavailable for selection for the 2nd and 3rd T20I. He is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. #WIvIND.”
The wily seaman last represented India in the third T20I of the three-game series against the English in England. He impressed with numbers of 2 for 35 despite the visitors dropping 17 runs in the competition.
After making his T20I debut in November 2021, Harshal has featured in 17 games for India. He has claimed 23 wickets with an impressive average of 20.95 and a save rate of 8.58.
Avesh Khan replaces Ravi Bishnoi in India playing XI for 2nd T20I against West Indies
Team India have made a change to their starting XI for the second T20I against the West Indies. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who impressed with numbers 2 to 26 in the opening game, was left out. Pacer Avesh Khan replaces him in the playing XI.
After losing the throw, Indian captain Rohit Sharma explained the change, commenting:
“We probably read the pitch well in the first game and thought we made the right call as a team to go with three spinners. The dimensions are different here and we wanted to get an extra capper here. Unfortunately, Bishnoi misses and Avesh Khan comes in.
“It’s unfortunate that he’s out but we’re trying what we can from a team perspective.”
The Men in Blue got off to the worst possible start when Sharma was sacked by Obed McCoy for a golden duck.
