Infiesto Review – a formulaic crime thriller set during the pandemic

We review Infiesto Netflix movie no spoilers.

Spanish filmmaker Patxi Amezcua‘S The third feature made its Netflix debut. infiesto is a thriller set against the background of the beginnings of the pandemic in spring 2020. Isak Ferriz (which you may know from the Netflix series Feria: The Darkest Light) And Iria del Rio (who appeared as Greta in the hit series elite) play two police inspectors investigating the case of a missing girl who recently escaped her captors.

Infiesto Review and Plot Summary

The film starts around the time Spain officially announced the first lockdown and establishes that our leads are personally affected by the virus. inspector Samuel Garcia (Ferriz) is not allowed to visit his mother, who is confined to a nursing home, while he is an assistant inspector Marta Castros (del Rio) Friend is infected and gradually getting worse.

The two have little time to process the global situation as on the same day a nationwide lockdown is announced, a kidnapped girl emerges after being held captive in the small mining town of Infiesto. Due to her injuries and psychological trauma, the victim is unable to help the police find her kidnappers. And since most of the police force is needed to enforce the lockdown, the police commissioner (Juan Fernandez) has no choice but to let Marta and Samuel handle the kidnapping case on their own.

It was an interesting decision by Amezcua to set the film in the early stages of the pandemic when speculation, fear and uncertainty were running high. It explains why the two main characters lack resources and sheds a whole new light on the villain’s motivations. While covid isn’t the main plot in infiestothe film did a good job of capturing the initial shock and confusion that was all too prevalent in those dark days that we would all rather forget.

Setting aside its background, the story told is as formulaic as it gets. We have our two crime-solving leads – one is an angry cynic whose unorthodox methods get him into trouble, and the other is a loyal but slightly more optimistic partner. There’s an abduction that turns out to be part of something far more sinister. And of course, the main character’s boss is dissatisfied with these methods, but lets him get away with them too often.

While I found the acting to be solid, the characters do get a bit annoying as the movie progresses. During their investigation, they let a suspect go after he gave them the most ridiculous excuse for trying to kidnap a girl. Samuel is too angry at all times and we never learn his backstory or reason for his anger, while Marta’s loyalty is unwavering. They spend little time trying to figure out what’s behind the kidnapping and seem to stumble upon each revelation through sheer luck, which in turn makes the ending and ending feel undeserved.

Is Infiesto good?

infiesto It’s not a bad film, but it’s not groundbreaking either. Elements of the pandemic are portrayed really well and with disturbing realism. And if you’re looking for a standard crime thriller with a relatively compelling story and a reassuringly familiar formula, this film delivers.
