We were expecting a new Apple iPad announcement before the end of the year and now one of Apple’s closest accessory partners may have confirmed that new Pro models are coming.
Our friends at 9to5Mac (opens in new tab) have noted that Logitech is now saying its Crayon Digital Pencil will work with two iPad Pro models, which have yet to be announced. If this reflects future products, it means updating the iPad Pro 12.9 inch and iPad Pro 11 inch Tablets could be here very soon.
The Logitech website for the Crayon lists compatible devices, including an iPad Pro 12.9 ‘6. Generation” and an iPad Pro 11 inch of the “4. Generation”. The current larger iPad Pro is in the fifth generation and the 11-inch model in the third generation, so this seems to point to the next generation of devices. We’ve already scheduled a new iPad launch for the October period, so it’s no big surprise to see these models poking their heads above the surface towards the end of September. It’s more surprising to see a trusted partner divulge the information.
Samsung uses in its technologies developed by Wacom S pen Stylus and is therefore compatible with many third-party accessory manufacturers. Apple uses proprietary technology for its Apple Pencil, and Logitech is the only third party currently licensed to make a pencil that works with Apple screens. Other stylus devices for iPad are little more than finger pointers with a tip that registers with the capacitive screen. They don’t take advantage of the accuracy and advanced features of Apple’s technology like the Logitech Crayon Digital Pencil. The Crayon is one of our favorites Apple Pencil alternatives.
Will they be as pro as the iPhone 14 Pro?
It would be very exciting to see new iPad Pro devices as Apple has launched a next-gen chipset in its A16 Bionic platform that is only found in the iPhone Pro devices. Perhaps Apple was saving more of those chips for Pro-level iPads and wanted to keep Pro exclusivity across the board. We’ll see next month when we expect Apple to finally make its announcements.
We’re following the upcoming iPad announcements closely now that the iPhone 14 family and Apple Watch Ultra launch mania is starting to calm down. If you want to learn more about the current generation of iPads and everything they can do, we break it all down in our roundup of the best iPads.
Analysis: Someone is in very big trouble
Ahead of an iPhone announcement, we get countless emails from case and accessory makers claiming to have gear ready for the next big thing, but they’re only guessing. Apple is very secretive. Even the most popular aftermarket brands don’t have specific details about new products until the very last possible moment, and often after the public announcement.
However, Logitech has a special status as it is the exclusive partner for Apple’s own technology. Apple trusts very few third-party companies this way. Even the smallest breach of trust can affect the entire organization. A small flaw on a website might seem like a minor flaw, but Apple could perceive this as a lax attitude across the company to protect its company secrets. The company has the best protected reputation in all of technology.
