Is Chase Rice Putting Out An Actual Country Album? Says He’s Done “Chasin’ Whatever Bullsh*t Thing I Thought I Was Supposed To Be Doing”

I can’t believe I’m even writing hunt rice at the moment.

For years, he’s been the stereotypical punchline of the bro-country-era joke with pop-inspired songs like “Drinkin’ Beer.” talk god Amen” and “Ready Set Roll”.

But I admit he had a few good songs here and there. Tracks like “Jack Daniels and Jesus” show you just what Chase is capable of if he wanted to make a true blue country album.

So is it about time we got a real Chase Rice country album?

Chase has announced his first album since 2017, and it sounds like he wants to take it in a different direction.

In a post on his Instagram, Chase said he’s long been chasing “bullshit” trends to stay relevant — but that he’s done with it and ready to make the kind of album he wants to make:

“For 10 years I’ve been giving a glimpse of who I really am in my music, but I’ve never been able to piece it all together. I’m after the shit I thought I was supposed to do back then. I’m done with that.

February I’m releasing my first full album since 2017 and this one has ruined me. I can finally process the loss of my father in this music and I know this is an album he would be proud of.”

Ok, I have to admit, I’m at least curious…

Now, of course, one could argue that he’s still chasing the current trend as country radio moves in a more…well, country direction. But at the same time that Chase was showing up in Nashville, you basically had to do bro-country-pop-sounding bullshit to get on the radio — and maybe that really wasn’t what he wanted to do.

I respect artists who are willing to come out and admit they were chasing trends and not making the music they wanted. It’s not easy to take action against your record company when your success is (apparently) in their hands.

So if someone admits doing what their label wanted instead of following their own creative intuition was wrong, I’m at least willing to give them a chance if they want to go in the right direction.

So am I getting my hopes up for the new Chase Rice album?

Not really.

But is there a chance he’ll surprise us all?

Sounds like there could be. Is Chase Rice Putting Out An Actual Country Album? Says He’s Done “Chasin’ Whatever Bullsh*t Thing I Thought I Was Supposed To Be Doing”
