Is CNN on life support? Evil doesn’t even begin to explain what happened in 2022

The situation at CNN is so shockingly bad that last year it managed to lose a third of its prime-time viewers compared to 2021. promotional week reported last week.

According to the report, which cited Nielsen ratings, the network saw a 33 percent loss in prime-time viewers and a 27 percent drop in daytime viewers year-over-year.

The situation was even worse in the key 25-54 age group, with a 36 per cent drop in prime time and a 34 per cent drop for the whole day. whoops

Adweek noted that “the network’s average of 122,000 demo days in 2022 represents CNN’s smallest demo audience on record.”

Summarize the numbers in simple words, Breitbart’s John Nolte wrote, “This means that CNN averages only 722,000 primetime viewers, 171,000 primetime demo viewers (ages 25-54), 565,000 total daily viewers, and 122,000 total daily demo viewers. In terms of the cable news race, CNNLOL is last by a country mile.”

Even more embarrassing? 2022 was an election year. Cable news networks don’t usually have to work too hard to get decent ratings during an election year.

Interestingly, CNN’s ratings have dropped since Donald Trump left the White House. For years, the left-wing network has played up its constant attacks on the former president, and its viewers have rewarded it with impressive ratings.

But now it’s all over.

The precipitous drop in viewership appears to be a referendum on how much of a failure the network has become, even as a new leader at the helm is desperate to correct its course.

These lost viewers didn’t just stop consuming the news. They went to other networks or outlets because they didn’t like what CNN was offering.

Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald shared his opinion on the problems facing the liberal network and held nothing back.

“There are some good journalists at CNN and I don’t rejoice in anyone’s personal distress, but the institution itself is a toxic plague on the world,” he tweeted Thursday. “The strongest evidence of this is the complete lack of self-reflection: literally no public analysis of what they did to fail.”

In another tweet, Greenwald mentioned CNN+, the network’s short-lived streaming service.

“The death of CNN+ was melodramatic and quick – here one day, gone the next! But the death of CNN itself is a slow, nagging, agonizing collapse, like leprosy, consuming just a little bit more of each limb each day, prolonging the inevitable demise,” he said.

Some pointed out that even after reports late last year that CNN would soon be shedding some of its workforce, the recent signing of former Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger didn’t seem like a wise business decision for the ailing network.

It’s all a shame, honestly. CNN used to be an observable network. It was never my first choice, but it was most likely to come on at the airport, in the doctor’s waiting room, or at the local quick-lube.

It feels like during the Trump years, CNN bet that the farm would go as far left as possible, and it very much seems like that bet was a massive loser.

It’s time to pull the plug.
