It would be easy for audiences to believe that the romance between these two deranged psychopaths would last forever. But Joe didn’t like having a murderous and unstable wife. She probably reflected him a bit too much. And their marriage ended (literally) on fire. Love Quinn’s untimely death at the hands of her husband left many fans in grief. Could it be that somehow Love is still alive and seeking revenge on the husband who tried to kill her?
Is Love Quinn Dead or Alive in You Season 4 Part 2?
Unfortunately, Love Quinn is no longer alive You Season 4 Part 2. Joe killed her at the end of Season 3. While Love is definitely dead, in Season 2 Episode 9, she emerges, “She is Not there,” during Joe’s tranquilizer-induced nightmare. He stole the pills from Pheobe and decided to take them to silence his hallucination of Rhys.
Instead of a peaceful Rhys-free sleep, Joe dreams of giving Marienne a coffee with peanut oil and watching her go into anaphylactic shock. In the real world, she’s not allergic, but Joe had used this method to murder Benji in season 1, so it’s probably in his dream.
In the hallucination, he needs the key to free Marienne from the glass cage and save her. He sees Gemma, the final victim of the Eat the Rich killer, and the only person who begins to find out who is behind the murders. Unsurprisingly, she refuses to give him the key. Then he sees Beck, his obsession in the first season. Beck doesn’t give him the key either.
Finally, Joe gets to talk to Love Quinn, who is waiting for him while she reads a book in a makeshift glass cage library. She wastes no time reminding him of his violent behavior and the pattern of obsessive stalking he falls into every time a woman catches his eye.
Why is Joe Goldberg hallucinating Love Quinn?
Love Quinn was Joe’s wife and the mother of his child, so it makes sense that she would appear in his hallucination. According to Hallucination Rhys, killing Love and abandoning her son at the end of Season 3 was what caused Joe to start losing his mind, which eventually caused his conscience to split in two.
Unlike his other love interests, aka obsessions, Love was also madly in love with him and willing to commit murders for him. She was part of the show for two seasons and by the end of season four was the only woman to fully accept and embrace Joe’s dark side. In the second half of the fourth season, Joe does a lot of searching for his soul. Encountering the woman he married and then killed was crucial to his character development.
What is the meaning of Love Quinn in You Season 4?
Love is the last of the victims Joe must face during his hallucination. He keeps asking for the key, but love is the only one that gives it to him. Talking to her helps Joe understand that there is only one way for him to save Marienne and avoid ever hurting anyone else. It allows him to take responsibility for the atrocities he committed and the injuries he caused.
Instead of the key, Love gives him a gun. “For this to end once and for all, someone has to die,” she says. The final conversation with Love gives Joe a clarity he never showed. At the end of Episode 10, all that personal growth disappears. But for a brief moment, Joe Goldberg was truly aware of himself.
