Is Netflix Wednesday a Kids Show? This article covers the age rating of the series and the content of the show.

The New Netflix Original Series, Wednesdayhas already attracted the attention of the general public, with much praise for Jenna Ortega‘s unique portrayal of the titular character and the series’ intriguing elements of mystery kept viewers captivated throughout its eight episodes. The series is an addictive crime thriller at its core, but it’s also a mishmash of other genres, with high school settings, teen romance, teen drama, plenty of comedy, and moments of supernatural horror as well. But overall it’s a coming-of-age story, a genre that’s appropriate for many different ages and audiences. This begs the question, is Netflix Wednesday a children’s show?

Is Netflix Wednesday Inappropriate?

There have been many adjustments to the Addams family from TV shows to live-action films to animated feature films over the years. The franchise has always catered primarily to a kind of PG/PG-13-friendly audience. So viewers might be interested in whether the new Netflix series is also suitable for younger viewers or whether the new teenage perspective means that Wednesday aimed squarely at a youth audience and older.

The new show revolves around a teenage Wednesday at Nevermore Academy, a high school for outcasts and magical beings. As she settles into her new school, she finds herself involved in a murder mystery and hunting a terrifying monster. This seems like a more mature narrative that may be inappropriate for younger viewers, but let’s examine the content of the show more closely.

There is no sex or nudity in the series, although there are a few scenes where characters kiss. There is a moderate level of violence and gore throughout, with death and destruction that may unnerve younger viewers. The level of profanity, drugs and alcohol is low, with one clique being referred to as potheads. But it’s the horror elements that make this series unsuitable for a certain age group. It can be quite scary at times and the series leans into horror conventions at times, building suspense and delivering jump scares throughout. I would therefore avoid showing it to anyone under the age of 12.

Is Wednesday a cartoon?

There have been CGI-animated adaptations of the Addams Family franchise in recent years, but this series is strictly a live-action adaptation. The first feature-length animation was released in 2019, titled The Addams familywith a sequel, simply called, released two years later The Addams family 2. These films were directed by Conrad Vernon (shrek 2) and Greg Tiernan (sausage party)with language work by Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz and Finn Wolfhard. These films have both been PG rated and can be found online. The first film is available on Netflix in the UK and on Prime Video for American viewers.

Is Netflix Wednesday a Kids Show?

Netflix Wednesday Unfortunately, it’s not a children’s series. In the UK it has an age certificate of 12, while in the US it is rated TV-14. The series features teenage storylines and numerous examples of violence and gore. Subplot with a killer monster can be quite scary at times with fantasy horror maestro Tim Burton he’s directing the first four episodes himself, which should give you a pretty good indication of what to expect. I would recommend sticking to the rating systems provided and only showing this new Netflix original series to people of the above ages and above.
