Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchinson has launched a scathing attack on Chelsea striker Christian Pulisic for complaining about Thomas Tuchel in his book.
Chelsea parted ways with Thomas Tuchel earlier this month after a poor start to the 2022-23 season. However, it is worth noting that the German tactician led the club to UEFA Champions League glory not so long ago.
The Blues earned a 1-0 win over Premier League rivals Manchester City to win the Champions League in the 2020-21 season. They also beat Real Madrid in the semifinals to book their tickets to Portugal.
Christian Pulisic played an important role in Chelsea’s triumph Los Blancos, scored his side’s goal in the 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Bernabeu. However, he lost his place to Kai Havertz in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Writing in his new book “Pulisic: My Journey So Far”The attacker claimed that Tuchel guaranteed him a place in the starting XI in the second leg. He revealed he was “stunned” when told Havertz would overtake him.
Hutchinson has now blasted Pulisic for claiming that Tuchel misled him ahead of the Chelsea-Real Madrid semi-final game. The former Liverpool midfielder called the 24-year-old “ridiculously naive” and described his actions as “babyish”. He said on ESPN FC’s YouTube channel:
“Oh, my days! I mean it’s ridiculously naive from Christian Pulisic. Okay, it’s his book so he feels like he has his little say against Thomas Tuchel, but isn’t he naive enough to think Thomas Tuchel won? not be happy and he will chat with other managers?”
“Managers change their minds. What’s happening with you? You’re a little disappointed, you’re a little upset. But it all sounds a bit babyish to me. Christian Pulisic whines. What’s in it for him?”
How did Chelsea striker Pulisic fare under Tuchel?
It is worth noting that Pulisic and Tuchel’s relationship dates back to 2016. The two worked together at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund before the coach left in 2017.
The US international played 55 games under Tuchel during his time in Dortmund. He netted seven times and provided 13 assists for his teammates in those games.
Pulisic and Tuchel reunited at Chelsea over three years later. Although the West London connection often proved frustrating for the attacker, he made 71 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists.
