“It will be official this week”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno will join newly promoted Fulham this week.

Leno, 30, joined the Gunners from Bayer Leverkusen in 2018 and became the Emirates’ first-choice goalkeeper. He has made 125 appearances for the North London side in all competitions.

However, Arsenal signed Aaron Ramsdale last summer, sidelining Leno. The German only made eight appearances in all competitions last season.

The Gunners also signed Matt Turner from New England Revolution, which pushes Leno further down the pecking order.

With the soccer World Cup coming up later this year, Leno is hoping for regular playing time to get into the German squad. Therefore, according to Romano, he will join Fulham this summer who wants to remain in the Premier League after promotion.

The German has signed a three-year deal and the transfer fee is set at £8million.

Report on Leno’s move to the Cottagers, Romano tweeted:

“Bernd Leno will undergo a medical as a new Fulham player later this week. He will sign until June 2025 with an option for another season. The full deal with Arsenal for a £8million fee was finalized yesterday. It will be official this week.”

Mikel Arteta’s side begin their Premier League season against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday 5 August. Meanwhile, Fulham will face a difficult challenge when they meet Liverpool at Craven Cottage on Saturday, August 6.

Arsenal could sign more players this summer, according to Mikel Arteta

The Gunners have been one of the busiest teams in the summer transfer window with five players so far. They have signed wingers Marquinhos, midfielders Pablo Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko, forward Gabriel Jesus and goalkeeper Matt Turner.

However, Mikel Arteta has hinted that they could try to sign more players. He said (via TARGET):

“We still hope to do something else if the market allows. They’ve also seen some movement in the past few days.”

He added:

“We want to get the perfect balance and plan that we wanted right from the start. Whether we can do it or not is another story, but I’m happy with where we are now.”
