“It’s a privilege to see him every day”

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Fabian Ruiz has heaped praise on Lionel Messi after his impressive game against Angers. Ruiz added it was a privilege to see the Argentine in close-up action on a daily basis.

Representing PSG for the first time since winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina in December, Lionel Messi made quite a change against Angers on Wednesday (11 January). The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was instrumental in building Hugo Ekitike’s fifth-minute strike. Then, in the 72nd minute, Messi got himself into the scorer’s chart by delivering a fine finish to Nordi Mukiele with a skillful finish.

PSG fans praised the Argentine from start to finish on Wednesday night and the same sentiment of appreciation was shared by one of Messi’s team-mates. Speaking to Canal+, Ruiz said he was privileged to be able to see Lionel Messi every day.

“Everyone knows what Leo is capable of,” said Ruiz.

“He scored and we are very happy for him. We congratulate him on the world championship title. He deserves it. Now we have to enjoy it on the field. It’s a privilege to see him every day. I think all the players are happy for him and for us.”

Lionel Messi was outstanding for the Parisians in the 2022-23 season, recording 13 goals and 14 assists in 20 games across all competitions.

Nordi Mukiele was PSG’s standout player in the Ligue 1 win over Angers

While Lionel Messi was undeniably impressive against the Ligue 1 bottom, he wasn’t their best player. That particular title was comfortably won by right-back Nordi Mukiele.

Substituting for 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalist Achraf Hakimi, Mukiele led the show down the right flank. He tirelessly stormed up and down the pitch, intercepting key defensive defenses and setting up goals for Ekitike and Messi.

In the fifth minute, Mukiele played an early low cross to Ekitike at the near post. The 20-year-old skilfully steered him into the left corner. Then, in the 72nd minute, Mukiele deftly dismantled Angers’ offside trap and played Messi on target with a perfectly weighted pass.

Un bon résultat pour démarrer l’année 2023 à la maison, très heureux d’avoir pu y contribuer 🅰️🅰️ Merci pour vos messages🃏🔴🔵 #iceageparis https://t.co/8Rrn60Whyj

Aside from the two assists, Mukiele created two great chances, played two key passes and attempted two tackles on Wednesday night.
