DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn debunks the rumor that the actor, or anyone else, has already been cast in the Superman reboot on the big screen.
Thanks to media coverage, James Gunn’s co-founders DC Studios are debunking that an actor like Jacob Elordi, or any actor, has already been cast in the Superman reboot. (Images: HBO/DC Studios/Warner Bros.
Since Gunn announced that Henry Cavill would not be returning to the role as the DC Universe reboot focuses on a younger Clark Kent, there is an increased likelihood of casting a young actor. Gunn himself penned the script, assuring fans that Superman is one of the top priorities for the reimagined DCEU.

Since I’m not happy, no one was cast as Superman. When the script is finished, or even in the near future, the script will be finished. Sure, you’ll show off the same thing you’ve got, but you won’t be one of those guys.

However, James Gunn himself denied any discussion and rumors that Elordi was thrown on his face.
Somewhere there is no one acting as Superman yet. The final film, like the first one I have, will be ready before the script is finished. Not even a few things. But casting Superman won’t be one of them.
Jacob Elordi is one of the names of young and talented actors to be featured in discussions about the rebooted Superman casting. Elordi stars in the upcoming HBO series Teens Euphoria alongside Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, as well as The Kissing Booth on Netflix. Aside from Elordi, actor David Corenswet was recently told that he was very good in the role of Superman.
In the past, several actors have written essays about the role of the Man of Steel in live action. Kirk Alyn was the first actor to wear a cape in the 1948 Superman films. Having been played by George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh, and Tyler Hoechlin, he was also the first to wear a cape on the series. Henry Cavill has been the Big Blue Boy Scout since the 2013 film Man of Steel, produced by Zack Snyder. Australian actor Jacob Elordi is one of the potential actors who could take on the role of a young Superman, but James Gunn has refuted that. Due to mixed reactions and the limited box office success of the DC Extended Universe, Cavill was absent from the role of last year’s Black Adam at the end of the summer. Dwayne Johnson even had to speak to Warner Bros executives and essentially got his hands on the Superman comeo. Fans responded positively to Cavill’s sudden return on an episode of the show, and then hoped to return to the stage.
Although Cavill accepted his return to his social media and said there was more to come, James Gunn officially announced that the British actor didn’t fit into their new DC Universe.
Since moving from DC Studios and producer Peter Safran to late December 2022, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad took over controversial announcements about the future of Warner Bros. Discovery’s superhero film studio. Aside from the unpopular decision to continue with Henry Cavill as Superman, Gunn also confirmed that director Patty Jenkins’ proposed script for Wonder Woman 3 was turned down. There are also allegations that the likes of Henry Cavills and Gal Gadots have been removed in the upcoming The Flash movie, directed by Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Sasha Calle.
While the Superman cast trembled, Gunn and Safran are expected to make major DC Universe-related announcements before January 2023.
