A strawweight world title challenger, Jarred Brooks, may be known as a wrestler, but he says he’s ready to break up with Joshua Pacio if they finally get their hands on each other.
The much-anticipated showdown for the divisional crown is now set to take place on December 3rd at ONE 164 and will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
“The Monkey God” has been raging since its promotional debut in November 2021. It ran through three of the division’s top contenders, namely Lito Adiwang, Hiroba Minowa and Bokang Masunyane. In all of his bouts, he has demonstrated his world-class wrestling and superior groundplay, resulting in two submissions in his three wins.
During an interview with The South China Morning Post, Jarred Brooks acknowledged that fighting play can be unpredictable. However, he believes his wrestling is only slightly above Pacio’s. He said:
“I’m not going to sit here and sugarcoat it. It’s like anything can happen in a fight. Literally everything. So you never know. I’ve knocked myself unconscious before, who would have thought? But at the end of the day I think I have ten times the grappling ability that he has.”
While wearing a jacket inspired by the colors of the Philippine flag, Brooks addressed the Filipino faithful and vowed that he would beat “The Passion” at his own game.
“My good Pinoys, I’m going to try and knock out your boy. I know you guys are talking all things, all those things, when I beat Lito, you said I’m not a real fighter because I didn’t go toe-to-toe with him. But I’m going to show you all that I can also be a stunning artist.”

Jarred Brooks casts shadow over Joshua Pacio’s world title reign
Jarred Brooks was a beast within the circle, but he also demonstrated his ability to throw fire at the mic during his tenure at ONE Championship. In his final verbal tirade, he turned his attention to Joshua Pacio’s reign in the ONE strawweight division.
In the same interview with SCMP MMABrooks said:
“Josh, ‘Oh my god, how did he get here?’ i hit better people [in one year] than in your entire career. So I think he’s not going to be prepared for this style and the way I’m going to bring it. Different fighters bring different opportunities and different kinds of styles that are brought out of me. I’m super excited to fight Josh. Let’s put it this way, he’s a smarter Lito Adiwang.”
To his credit, “The Passion” has defeated every man who has ever held the ONE world strawweight title. As impressive as Jarred Brooks was in his first three fights, none of the men he defeated stood a chance of fighting for the world title.
