Jon Rahm: World No. 1 withdraws from Players Championship due to illness

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the Players Championship ahead of his second round due to illness.

The Spaniard, ranked number one in the world, hit a one-under-par 71 on his first round at TPC Sawgrass on Thursday.

Rahm leads the FedExCup leaderboard after winning three tournaments, most recently last month’s Genesis Invitational.

He should be teeing off alongside Americans Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, both of whom are taking first place this week with good results.

While round two was well underway, low-ranked American Chad Ramey maintained his one-shot advantage before getting back on course.

Collin Morikawa remained second, while Ben Griffin moved up to third after a one-under par run of 71 with six under.
