Jude Law and Alicia Vikander star at the Cannes premiere of Firebrand

Based on Elizabeth Fremantle’s 2013 novel Queen’s Gambit, the historical drama explores the life of Catherine Parr – Henry VIII’s sixth and last wife.
Law plays the infamous King of England while Oscar-winning actress Vikander Parr plays in the film, which marks the English-language debut of its director, Brazilian filmmaker Karim Ainouz.
Set in Tudor England, the film follows Parr as she seeks a future based on her Protestant faith after being appointed regent while the tyrannical Henry fights abroad.
When the king returns, he turns his anger on the radicals, accuses Parr’s childhood friend of treason, and burns her at the stake.
Horrified and grieving but forced to deny it, Parr fights for her own survival to avoid the fate of being beheaded like previous women.
The cast also includes The Crown’s Erin Doherty as writer and preacher Anne Askew, Operation Mincemeat’s Simon Russell Beale as Bishop Stephen Gardiner, while Maleficent’s Sam Riley and The Gentlemen’s Eddie Marsan play Thomas and impersonate Edward Seymour.
Ruby Bentall, Bryony Hannah and Maia Jemmett also join the cast, as does Olivier Award-winning Patsy Ferran, who will play Princess Mary, and Junia Rees, who will make her acting debut as Princess Elizabeth.
The film premiered in Cannes on Sunday in competition for the Palme d’Or.
Vikander wore a peachy dress with silver beading and had her hair half up for the occasion.
She was also joined on the red carpet by her husband, X-Men actor Michael Fassbender.
Meanwhile, Ainouz and Law opted for classic black tuxedos, with the Hollywood actor also sporting a mustache at the event.
A number of famous faces also attended the premiere, including Gigi Hadid, who wore a taupe bodycon dress with added panels at the hips and wore her blonde tresses loose in waves.
US actress Michelle Yeoh made a statement in a bright green off shoulder dress paired with a matching oversized scarf.
Model Sabrina Elba, who is married to Idris Elba, wore a sheer gown with silver beaded embellishments for the occasion, while Naomi Campbell wore a chic white floaty gown.
