Julia Healey has been declared a Master Craftsman by the Guild of Photographers
Julia Healey of Huntington-based Julia Healey Photography is considered possibly one of the top 50 photographers in the country.
The 36-year-old has been recognized as a ‘master craftsman’ by the Guild of Photographers, the highly respected national photographic organization whose members are committed to achieving the highest standards of professionalism for the benefit of their clients.
Achieving this with the guild requires a rigorous judging process. So much so that fewer than 50 photographers in England hold that title!
Guild Directors Steven and Lesley Thirsk said, “We’re delighted that Julia has achieved this! The guild’s standards are very high, so this achievement reflects Julia’s dedication to her photography as well as her skills. The judging will be made by a panel of industry experts from diverse backgrounds in photography, so Julia can be very proud of this recognition.”
7 photos of York and beyond from the Press Camera Club
Julia, who came to the York area from Bedfordshire 15 years ago, has been a professional photographer for around 8 years.
Originally working in administrative roles, she has always had an interest in photography and completed a course in her former home country which later led to a position as a photographer for a local real estate agency.
“I realized that this is what I’ve wanted to do my whole life: make my passion my profession,” she said.
Many other photographers also specialize in weddings, but Julia believes she has a more personal touch than others. She also loves weddings and was recently a finalist in the North of England Wedding Awards.
She is married but has no children and is the owner of black and white cat Neko and calico cat Willow. She also appreciates the importance of pets.
Julia began photographing pets shortly after adopting her two cats and quickly realized how much they are a part of the family.
Julia explained: “I believe that every pet has their own individual personality, just like us, and it is important to me that they are an integral part of the family. That’s why I started photographing pets, not only to capture some really beautiful and natural portraits of them, but also to capture their personality and cherish them forever.”

Julia says she’s thrilled to have received the master’s degree for her Pawtrait pet photo panel.
She added: “These qualifications reflect years of experience and hard work, as well as my commitment to providing the best possible service to all of my clients. Considering that there are only 50 people in the country who hold the master’s degree and also that I’m the first wildlife photographer to create a gallery of cat images, it’s really an incredible achievement for me.”
