Jurgen Klopp considering squad overhaul at Anfield this summer?

Jurgen Klopp fights at Liverpool FC

Liverpool finally missed out on a chance to defend their Premier League crown last season thanks to a one-point deficit and are in the midst of a hugely worrying season at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp begins his Champions League knockout round adventure with a nightmarish meltdown on home soil as they lost 5-2 to Real Madrid on February 21 and Jurgen Klopp faces his toughest spell on Merseyside .

Opening March priced as high as 9/4 The English heavyweights continue to struggle with consistency on both sides during the World Cup winter break to earn a crucial top-four finish in May.

Knowing they will most likely finish the 2022/23 season without a single silverware, Liverpool are a mile away from picking up another real title fee.

With what is expected to be a crucial summer transfer window, Klopp has many questions that will need to be answered in the coming months.

No Champions League, no Salah?

After many around Anfield were disappointed last summer when it was revealed that attacking talisman Sadio Mane would join German giants Bayern Munich, Liverpool fans will fear they will face a similar crisis in 2023.

Although there may have previously been speculation that Mohamed Salah could be on his way out of Anfield, the former Chelsea starlet is once again finding out about his contract.

Salah, who enters the final 18 months of his current contract with Merseyside this summer, has made it clear his priority is playing Champions League football next season.

After an infamous Champions League collapse in their first leg against Los Blancos on February 21 when they collapsed in a 5-2 defeat, Klopp’s side are now rated as highly as 25/1 to continue their European adventure.

With no sign of a contract extension on the horizon and Liverpool faced with the looming possibility that Salah could end his record-breaking tenure on Merseyside, Klopp knows how difficult it will be to replace the 30-year-old.

A midfield overhaul at Anfield

Although Liverpool may have spent £89m when they welcomed Darwin Nunez to Anfield last summer, it’s no secret that Klopp is desperate for a midfield overhaul ahead of the 2023/24 season.

While the former Borussia Dortmund boss may have depended on Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara during his tenure, Liverpool’s aging midfield was a major cause for concern.

With a string of troubles in the middle of the park and another passing chance to sign a permanent central midfielder during the January transfer window, many are expecting a blockbuster summer on Merseyside.

With it looking like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin and Naby Keita could leave Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season, Klopp has placed Jude Bellingham at the top of his wish list.

Enjoying a stunning rise to superstardom since arriving at Borussia Dortmund in Liverpool and currently leading the hunt for Bellingham’s signature 2/1.

A new leader in the back

With Liverpool ending their 30-year wait for the Premier League crown in 2020, a large part of Klopp’s success was thanks to his side’s defensive determination.

However, with Virgil van Dijk unable to find top-quality kit this season after another long-term injury problem, the former champions have often been scrutinized for his problems at the back.

With hometown superstar Trent Alexander-Arnold enduring a public nightmare at Anfield, the likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip haven’t offered any sort of stability.

With some suggesting Matip could be one of the players to be pulled from Klopp’s squad this summer, a new centre-back should be one of the 55-year-old’s top priorities this year.

With the 5-2 Champions League defeat by Real Madrid only underscoring Liverpool’s obvious defensive problems this season, Klopp could be ready to allow a variety of defensive options this summer.
