“Just didn’t meet the eye test, want to go Duke, want to go to Virgina tech”

Steph Curry inquired if he could only go to Duke on day leave but the team refused him entry as the manager said they were “fully staffed” and would be back next year.

Duke’s roster that year ended as the 6th seed in the NCAA tournament, where they would lose to VCU in the first round.

An article by Basketball News’ Alex Kennedy outlines the comments Dell Curry made on the situation. DellCurry said:

“Just failed eye test, wants to go to Duke, wants to go to Virginia Tech”

According to his father, Steph was not considered a great contender by either school. It was at this point that he finally joined Davidson.

Would you have wanted to see Steph Curry play at Duke? According to Rex Chapman and Dell Curry, Curry was hoping to continue at school but the Blue Devils didn’t take him 😳…

Curry, on the other hand, came to Davidson where he had a stellar freshman season. Steph finished the game averaging 21.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He shot 40.8% from 3-point range, averaging 3.6 3s per game.

Duke missed Steph Curry

Steph Curry played with Davidson for three seasons before declaring himself drafted. Needless to say, Duke may have missed something. Rex Chapman said:

“By the end of the year, everyone in the country wanted Stephen.”

Duke almost immediately regretted her decision as they showed a keen interest in Steph after his freshman year in college. But it seems Steph’s loyalty has run deep for a long time as he stayed with Davidson because of her trust in him.

Dell outlined what Steph told him:

“Dad, if they didn’t want me then, I don’t want them now. Damn it, I’m sticking with Davidson.”

Steph Curry was drafted seventh overall by the Golden State Warriors in 2009 and has remained in the franchise ever since. Also, there wasn’t even a mention that Steph Curry was playing somewhere else.

Both Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have also been with the Warriors for a long time. The commitment of the three players is an important reason for their four championships together.

It looks like Steph Curry’s longtime loyalty has paid off. The four-time champion carved his own path in the league, becoming the all-time leader in 3 Points Made. Missed Duke.

They didn’t quite miss it, however, when they brought Seth Curry, Steph’s brother, in a transfer in 2009. Seth Curry played three seasons for Duke, averaging 13.2 points per game in 106 games.
