Kevin Nguyen got the win Mid States Poker Tour Main Event at the Grand Falls Casino right on the South Dakota-Iowa state line. It was awarded along with the $83,109 grand prize MSPT Title late on Sunday March 12th. This was the first tournament win for the resident of Sioux City, Iowa; and his career earnings now total $85,738.
The $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em event had a prize pool worth $377,770 thanks to two starting flights with a total of 391 entries. The top 45 players all cashed in at least $2,078 in prize money. On the final day of the tournament, 56 players returned and the money bubble quickly burst to start the day.
With the nine-man final table set after nearly nine hours of play, Nguyen held the chip lead with a stack of 3.3 million versus his closest opponent’s 1,205,000. Blake Bohn headlined the final table with a career earnings of $3,738,921, but he was the short stack when things started, finishing in fourth place.
Nguyen lost the chip lead to Dan Dykhouse early in the heads-up game. Stacks ranged from 7 million to 2,775,000 when the cards blew between the last two cards, but Nguyen quickly doubled up and then made a straight in a key hand to take the lead. In the last hand, the A is8th
