Junk justice
This is a true story and does little to increase confidence in the Canadian justice system.
The now retired federal judge Richard Bell has rejected the deportation of a British citizen. Why do you ask?
Well, the esteemed Judge Bell ruled that the use of gender-neutral pronouns in a single government document violated Colin James Ewen’s Charter rights. He’s a he/him and never asked for it.
Bell’s ruling was torpedoed by the federal appeals court, which called his decision “inappropriate,” “unjustified” and “irrelevant.”
Ewen missed his deportation date and is still here.
