Kitchener retiree wins $2 million in lottery

Steven Remias of Kitchener is looking for a car after winning a $2 million Ontario 49 prize in a drawing in July.

Remias, a 76-year-old retired father and grandfather, said he has been playing the lottery for 30 years but this is his first big win.

“At first I thought I won $2,000. I thought that was pretty good,” he said.

Remias asked the seller to check his ticket.

“When the note came out of the machine, there were so many zeros. I was numb with shock and thought to myself, “I have to get out of here, I’m having a heart attack,” he said.

He went home to tell his wife the news.

“She was in awe and couldn’t understand all those zeros,” he said.

“I always hoped to win, but never expected it. I plan to enjoy my life comfortably.”

In addition to buying a new car, Remias plans to invest his winnings.
