Kurt Russell answers ‘constant’ questions about marriage to Goldie Hawn

Kurt Russell has revealed that he and Goldie Hawn are often asked about the marriage as the two have been together since 1983.

The couple explained how they once appeared to be contemplating marriage during a recent interview with her together diversity. More specifically, they recalled teasing the idea in 1989 when presenting the Best Director award at the Oscars. They said when they arrived with the skit it was only an hour before the ceremony because they didn’t like the original script that was being prepared for them.

“We’ll shower and get ready together,” Russell said. “And we looked at each other and said, ‘There’s going to be a lot of people watching, so let’s get this right.’ And we started beating it back and forth for about 20 minutes. We didn’t tell anyone about deviating from the script.”

diversity also reported that after the 1989 event, fans thought their banter about the marriage meant they really got hitched. However, Russell confirmed to the publication that an engagement was not on the cards for him and his partner, despite many people asking about it.

“Back then we were constantly being asked, ‘When are you going to get married? Why aren’t you married?’” he explained. “And we thought, ‘Why does anyone care?’ We asked our children to take care of it. They didn’t. We do not have that.”

Hawn then chimed in to briefly praise her partner, adding, “Kurt is extraordinarily brilliant and creative and collaborative — not in the kitchen. But really, he’s just amazing.”

Over the years, the two have built a life together with their blended families. Hawn has raised two children, Oliver Hudson, 46, and Kate Hudson, 43, with ex-husband Bill Hudson, while Russell shares his now 43-year-old son Boston Russel with ex-wife Season Hubley. In 1986, Russell and Hawn welcomed their own son, Wyatt.

The couple’s recent comments on diversity isn’t the first time they’ve talked about their relationship and why they didn’t get married. During an interview on ITV’s Loose Women in 2015, Hawn explained why she never wanted to remarry after her divorce from Hudson.

“I would have been divorced long ago if I had been married,” she said, as reported Hello! “Marriage is an interesting psychological thing. If you need to be committed to someone, then being married is important.”

“If you’re independent, if you have enough money and a sense of independence and you like your independence, there’s something psychological about not being married because it gives you the freedom to make choices one way or another,” added she added.

Though she never tied the knot, Hawn has still acknowledged how successful her relationship with Russell has been. During an interview with radio times In 2020, Hawn revealed what the secret to a long-term relationship is. “I think the only thing you have to think about is, ‘Do I want to be here?'” she explained. “When two people really want to be together, there’s something to appreciate, so keep fresh by surprising each other
