Kyle Busch On “Hurtful” Departure From Joe Gibbs Racing: “He Was There For Me & It’s Gone… It Just Flipped”

Kyle Bush shocked the NASCAR world when he announced he was leaving his team for 15 years, Joe Gibbs Racing, for Richard Childress Racing.

It was pretty shocking considering Busch and Childress almost got into a fistfight in 2011, but they were confident they would put the past behind them and move on.

Of course, Busch never really intended to leave JGR, but his lost sponsorship at M&M’s played a big part in him having to move elsewhere.

In a recent episode of USA Network’s NASCAR documentary series, championship race, It almost seemed like Busch blamed Joe Gibbs primarily for their failure to reach a contract agreement, and in typical Kyle Busch fashion, he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind:

“Something that I find so disappointing and so hurtful about this whole situation with JGR is that they were like family.

For 15 years, Joe turned his back on me at the dumbest moments Kyle Busch was. He was there for me and it’s gone. It just turned around and was gone, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever been a part of.”

It is evident that Busch was deeply hurt at having to leave his longtime team, a team in which he has seen over 60 career race wins and two NASCAR Cup Series championships.

Some have also wondered if the emergence of Gibb’s grandson, Ty Gibbs, who had a successful career in the Xfinity series, played a role in Busch’s failure to reach an agreement with the team, and it was a matter of time before Ty to this climbed the cup series.

Even so, Busch doesn’t seem to be taking the divorce too well. Kyle Busch On “Hurtful” Departure From Joe Gibbs Racing: “He Was There For Me & It’s Gone… It Just Flipped”
