Kyle Lafferty: Northern Ireland football star being investigated by Kilmarnock FC for alleged sectarian remark

Kilmarnock FC have opened an inquiry into alleged sectarian comments made by Northern Ireland player Kyle Lafferty.

Footage circulating online appears to show the Enniskillen-born striker speaking to football fans in a bar.

The clip begins with a man wanting to pose for a photo with the former Rangers star.

The man then appears to say, “Up the Celts,” before Lafferty immediately walks away from the man, allegedly making a sectarian comment as he walks away.

The Scottish Premier League, for which the 35-year-old now plays, has launched an official investigation into the incident.

A statement from Kilmarnock Club read: “Kilmarnock Football Club is aware of a video circulating online which appears to show a member of our game team’s staff using sectarian language.

“The association finds any form of discriminatory behavior completely unacceptable. The case is being investigated by the club.”

The Football Association of Ireland has been contacted for further comment.
