Two amazing young men in Lafayette are asking for your donation towards a diaper drive for the less fortunate in Lafayette and across Acadiana. As parents, there are always lessons we want to teach our children. In my experience as a father of two, I have learned that children learn more by watching and doing than by being told.
Julian and Isaac Williams learn lessons in ministry thanks to their father, John, their mother, Kathryn, and a community of commoners who support an organization called Love of People. They help by collecting diapers.
Yes, these boys devote part of their summer to helping the innocent little ones whose families either cannot afford or are unable to source diapers for their smallest members. But don’t think that this is her first attempt to share it with those less fortunate than herself, this is a diaper campaign that took seven years in the works.
This is the seventh year that Julian and now his brother Isaac, who is several years his junior, have been working with their parents and countless others in this selfless endeavor. Julian has long celebrated his birthday by giving gifts to others, now he shares this altruistic spirit and teaches it to his younger brother Isaac.
The mission of the Williams Brothers Diaper Campaign is to ensure that no parent has to worry about providing for this basic need for their child. In some cases, the need is economic. In other cases, the family is in distress due to circumstances beyond their control. The diapers collected are shared free of charge with those who need them, but especially with those in shelters or situations where there is no alternative.
How you can help is really quite simple. The next time you go to your favorite store to buy items for your family, think of the Williams Brothers and their Diaper Drive. If you could pick up a package, crate, suitcase, or pallet load and drop it off for the ride, not only would you be honoring the spirit of giving that Acadiana is known for, but you would be helping these young men keep their promise, their community to make it a better place for all families.
Diaper donations are gladly accepted Hub City Ford, a great community manager. Diapers can also be handed in at the Lafayette Visitor Center on the Evangeline Thruway. Other companies that have opened their hearts and doors to support the mission are Rise PT, Fit Girl, IV drip therapies and St. Barnabas Church. Each of these locations is a delivery point.
What we need are diapers. We need diapers for newborns, infants, children and adults. The Diaper Drive also accepts “diaper” donations for our “fur babies” in South Louisiana.
Compassion comes in all sizes and these two boys, with the help of their families and led by community-minded people like you, dare to make a difference from a young age. They learn that true joy and true “kindness” come from a giving heart and a passionate mind.
Love of People’s mission is “Helping Others… Helping Others”. And the best way to instill that kind of spirit in a community is to teach that community the importance of giving early in life. Don’t you want to help Julian and Isaac complete this part of their mission? The need is real and so is the solution.
We can sit back and watch the need grow, or we can act with a loving and caring heart and truly make our community a community that cares for all. From the youngest child to the most amazing seniors and even some of our animal friends looking for a heart to love, this is our chance to get out of our own troubles and help someone out of theirs.
The Williams Brothers Diaper Drive runs through July 28th. With your help, the shelves of the Love of People offices will be stocked with diapers for families in need well before the deadline
