Lafayette Firefighters Battle Fire in an Apartment Bathroom

It’s a tough time when you have to deal with a fire, but I’m sure this situation is a lot harder to deal with just before a holiday.

Two families are grappling after a fire broke out in a Lafayette apartment.

The woman who lives in the apartment where the fire broke out said she was visiting a family member when things suddenly changed.

It was a loud noise that alerted the woman, who lives in an apartment in Himbola Manor, that a fire broke out of her bathroom on Tuesday.

The woman was able to free herself, her brother and her children from the apartment, fortunately no one was injured.

Firefighters say when they arrived at the apartment on the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming out of the front door. The flames also spread to an apartment next door.

The bathroom and the hallway were on fire, which fortunately could be extinguished quickly by the fire brigade. The home sustained severe fire damage and American Red Cross officials are on the scene to offer assistance to people living in both homes.

The Acadiana Red Cross can assist residents with housing questions and help them obtain needed items.

Investigators are still working out what caused the fire, but they do know it started in the apartment’s bathroom cabinet.
