Law Roach shocks fans by announcing he’s stepping back from styling
Law Roach has shocked fans after announcing he is retiring from styling.
The 44-year-old took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a graphic of a red sign that reads “Retired.” Roach, who has notably worked as a stylist for Zendaya, also expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and clients in the caption of his post.
“My cup is empty,” he wrote. “Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my career over the years. Every person who has entrusted me with their picture, I am so grateful to you all.”
He did not give a specific reason for his resignation, but the former America’s Next Top Model The judge gave a subtle hint as to what encouraged him to leave the fashion industry.
“If this business was all about clothes I would do it for the rest of my life, but unfortunately it’s not! The politics, the lies and false narratives finally got me!” “You win…I’m out.”
In the comments on his post, many famous faces have expressed their surprise at Roach’s news and encouraged him not to back down.
“WHAT?!” TikTok star Addison Rae commented, while Naomi Campbell added: “Law I won’t let you!!!! We’re not giving up… tried too hard.”
“Not me over here thinking it’s April 1st?” model Iskra Lawrence commented along with three broken red heart emojis.
However, other people showed their support for Roach and agreed with his feelings about the fashion world.
“We all come or go on our OWN terms,” wrote actress Niecy Nash. “If you’re done because you want your next role, blessed be you… When you have a “moment,” keep your main character’s energy! Either way: you got it.”
“People don’t understand how exhausting this industry can be. Negativity takes the fun out of what you love most,” added entrepreneur Mali Thomas, owner of Mali Magic Beauty. “I hope you take the time to reflect on how absolutely dynamic and inspirational you are. Pray that you can sit back in your gift with tunnel vision and peace.”
NeNe Leakes also commented, “Mental health comes first,” along with a purple heart emoji.
Roach has been a famous stylist since 2009 when he started working for Kanye West. Since then he has continued to help create the looks of many A-listers for various events including Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande and Celine Dion. He’s also become known as Zendaya’s signature stylist, having styled her four different outfits for two events last month: The NAACP Image Awards and the SAG Awards.
Most recently he worked with Kerry Washington, euphoria Star Hunter Schafer and Megan Thee Stallion talk about their looks vanity fair‘s Oscar party on Sunday.
Roach’s retirement announcement also comes four months after he received the CFDA’s inaugural Stylist Award of 2022. Speak with Fashion He called her “the ultimate compliment” about the performance in November.
He also described the vision he has when dressing his clients, stating, “I think maybe that’s what makes me different [stylists] is that I work really hard to find out who the person is. I never want to change that; I just want to help increase it; so they can be the best version of themselves.”
Before receiving this award last year, The Hollywood Reporter named Roach one of “Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylists of 2021”. He was also the first African American stylist to appear on the cover of the publication’s Stylist & Stars issue.
