As she prepares for a return to the spotlight, Lea Michele pays a heartfelt tribute to her former boyfriend and Glee co-star, Cory Monteith.
On Wednesday, the actress commemorated the ninth anniversary of Corey’s death with a commemorative photo on her Instagram story. The photo appears to have been taken while filming a 2011 episode of Glee in New York.
Michele didn’t write a caption but added a heart emoji to the image.
Lea and Cory met in 2009 while filming the first season of Glee. Although the exact timeline of their relationship is unclear, they publicly confirmed that they were a couple about three years later.
The two actors were still a couple when Cory died of a drug overdose in 2013 at the age of 31. Lea has confirmed his death on social media every year since and has at least two tattoos in his memory.
“We talked about a lot of things,” she recalled to Glamor UK in 2014. “We talked about kids and what we would look like when we got old and who would be fat and how we would stay thin. We talked about where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do. We were done. It was us.”
“When you’re with someone at this point in your life, you talk about everything,” she continued. “But today I feel like I was given the best part of Cory and I’m grateful for that.”
Lea later found love with Zandy Reich, who she married in 2019. The couple became parents to son Ever Leo for the first time in 2020.
The actor’s career is in full swing these days. Earlier this week, she confirmed she would be joining the cast of Broadway’s Funny Girl revival in September as Ziegfeld Follies comedian Fanny Brice.
This is her first Broadway engagement since 2006’s Spring Awakening, in which she played Wendla.
