Legally held firearm stolen during Derry burglary

Police are investigating a report of a gross burglary in Londonderry after two masked men armed with what they believe to be a firearm and a baton entered a property.

A legally held firearm was stolen in the incident in the McClay Gardens area of ​​the Waterside on Thursday.

It was reported that two masked men dressed in dark clothing and armed with what they believed to be a firearm and a baton entered the home at around 10:30 p.m.

One of the intruders pushed the male occupant into a chair and handcuffed his wrists while the other forced access to a gun cabinet.

A legally stored firearm was removed from the closet and the two men then exited the property. The occupant was not physically injured but was badly shaken after the incident.

An investigation is ongoing and detectives are appealing to anyone who has noticed suspicious activity, or who had CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time of the incident, to call the non-emergency number 101 on Strand Road and provide the reference number contact 2111 9/22/22.
