Leon Edwards has opened up about his mother’s reaction to his career as a professional MMA fighter. In conversation with CBS sports‘ Shakiel Mahjouri posted on the SHAK MMA YouTube channel, Edwards revealed his mother doesn’t like watching him fight.
“Rocky” also touched on the fact that his younger brother, Bellator fighter Fabian Edwards, also competes in MMA. Leon Edwards suggested that her mother dislikes the fact that they are fighters but understands how MMA has changed their lives for the better.
Leon Edwards was enrolled in an MMA club at the age of 17 by his mother in hopes that it would help him avoid a life of crime. She even encouraged her younger son, Fabian Edwards, to join MMA. When asked if his mother felt getting her sons to join MMA was one of her top three parenting decisions of all, ‘Rocky’ agreed. Edwards explained:
“I think MMA compared to what I did, I mean I think for her even though she hates her son fighting because I have a brother called Fabian who competes. I watched all the fights but she covered her eyes. She’s basically like a mother, you know.”
“But she knows it made us better people, better men, better fathers. So of course I’m happy to be her son. I am proud. She is proud of us for what we achieve. And she’s the one that got me into MMA at the age of 17 when I was struggling with gangs and stuff.” [sic]

Leon Edwards opens up on Kamaru Usman’s potential strategy in their rematch
Leon Edwards will face pound-for-pound UFC No. 1 fighter and reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman in a highly anticipated rematch. Their first fight witnessed Usman defeat ‘Rocky’ in 2015 to beat him by unanimous decision. Their rematch takes place on August 20 at UFC 278 and will see Usman jeopardize his welterweight title.
Speak with ESPNMMA A few months ago, Edwards outlined Usman’s possible strategy in their rematch. ‘Rocky’ claimed that their rematch would not be a flash match, but more of a wrestler vs. striker showdown. Hinting that his punch is vastly superior to Usman’s, Edwards said:
“He [Kamaru Usman] definitely fell in love with his hands. He definitely believes in her. He called Canelo. He genuinely thinks he’s a sick forward so fair to him but I know if we fight he’s going to shoot for his takedowns.”
