There is something special about watching an artist’s personal and professional journey as they continue to strive for another great day.
The Netflix documentary LiSA Another Great Day was released on October 18, 2022. This is our official review.
In this musical documentary, viewers and fans get a glimpse into the world of the singer known as the “rock heroine”, the Japanese soloist Risa Oribe Lisa. We are taken on a journey to see how she reflects on the first decade of her career and her hopes and aspirations for the future. Directed by Taketoshi Sado, this movie lasts approximately one hour and thirty seven minutes and is worth the investment to watch. Subtitles are available throughout.
Documentaries like this are incredibly personal, especially through the use of old home videos and discussions about her childhood and family life. We receive fly-on-the-wall style interviews and footage as we observe the artist’s creative process. We see LiSA’s ups and downs in her personal and professional life. What’s fun is that we do a lot of backstage filming as we see LiSA preparing to enter a new phase in her life as she works on her 10th anniversary project “Liiiiiiiiiisa”.
If anything, LiSA is very positive and always tries to make every day a good one. She is inspirational and determined in her endeavours. Although it seems exhausting to constantly strive and search for it another great day. This film is a journey of her self-discovery and how she continues to grow as a person and as an artist. LiSA is really learning to trust and believe in yourself. LiSA has her fears and struggles like all good artists, but here we see her learning from herself and everyone around her to build a better life and career for herself.
There’s a lot about her family, her influence and what she meant to her that I really loved. A powerful strong female presence was relatable and genuinely warm to behold. Towards the end we have a montage of her live performances that look incredible, from the staging to the costumes to her beautiful, gentle but strong voice, sweeping a huge audience. LiSA really puts everything into her music and herself.
I learned a lot from this film, about an artist and music that I didn’t know about before, which is why I love documentaries so much. In doing so, we are transported into a world and life that is different from ours, and whether you’re an aspiring artist or just a fan, this is a great glimpse into the life of a working musician.
What I take away from this film is the choice to be happy. The power behind owning your feelings, owning your own happiness and choosing it every day. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Here’s to the next decade, LiSA.
