Liverpool attempting to hijack move for Manchester United target after speaking to player’s agent

According to The Daily Star, Liverpool are trying to hijack Manchester United’s move for Ajax winger Antony.

The Reds have already been in touch with the 22-year-old’s agent, who is valued at £69m by Ajax.

The above report claims that Manchester United are now looking at other options despite having identified Antony as a key summer destination. The Red Devils were put off by Ajax’s high rating of the Brazilian.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking to capitalize on the situation and further intensify their attack by signing the former Sao Paulo winger.

According to Brazilian publication Yahoo Esportes, Sao Paulo is closely monitoring the situation as they seek a solution to their financial woes.

The Brazilian side are entitled to 20 per cent of any profit Ajax make from the sale of Antony and could transfer £10.6m if the Dutch champions’ asking price of £69m is met.

Antony has established himself as one of the most exciting wingers in Europe in recent years under then-Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who is now in charge of United.

Since his £16m move to Ajax in 2020, Antony has been one of the key players at Johan Cryuff Arena.

The 22-year-old has scored 22 goals and provided 20 more assists in 78 appearances in all competitions for Ajax, which helped the club win two Eredivisie titles and a KNVB Cup.

Liverpool or Manchester United, where should Antony move?

At the moment, Liverpool are miles ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United. The Reds are a force to be reckoned with not only in England but also in Europe.

A move to Merseyside would be more appealing for the Brazil international as he would have a better chance of winning silverware.

However, the Reds already have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in their ranks.

Antony might struggle to find a place in Klopp’s starting line-up and he’s also too good and too expensive to be a squad player.

He would be more of an automatic choice by joining the Red Devils and might find it easier to settle down under a manager he already knows well. Liverpool attempting to hijack move for Manchester United target after speaking to player’s agent
