Liverpool have denied all reports linking them to a move for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
According to reports from Spain, the Reds are looking to sign a midfielder this summer who could come on a budget. With just a year left on his current deal with Real Madrid and available for £25million, Asensio fitted into the mold of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
However, according to the above source, these reports have been denied by the club’s internal sources. The Reds have insisted their summer deal is over following the arrival of three new players – Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay.
Darwin Nunez was the most festive arrival at Anfield this summer. The 22-year-old forward joins the Reds from Portuguese side SL Benfica for a £64million entry fee. With surcharges, the fee could rise to £85million which will make Nunez the club’s record signing.
Meanwhile, club sources have also denied any interest in signing Raheem Sterling in the summer. The 27-year-old England international is currently being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea. According to The Athletic, Sterling has agreed personal terms with the Blues and is on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge.
Notably, Liverpool are now planning to build a squad for the future and buy young players. Of the three newcomers this summer, only one player – Nunez – is over 21. Fabio Carvalho is 19 years old while Calvin Ramsay is only 18 years old.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Jude Bellingham
Liverpool are on the lookout for a new central midfielder and willing to wait until 2023 to sign a perfect fit. According to The Mirror, that player is Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. However, the Reds will have to shell out more than £100million to secure the England international’s services next summer.
Liverpool will need a new central midfielder in the near future. James Milner will turn 37 next year and is expected to leave Anfield next summer. Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are both in their 30s, while Fabinho will be 29 later this year. As such, a revamped midfield will be high on Jurgen Klopp’s priority list next summer.
