“Lmao take him back”, “Like we care” – Manchester United fans brutally react to player returning early from international duty owing to injury

Manchester United fans have mocked goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as the Slovakian returned from international duty early with an injury.

The Red Devils have revealed that the goalkeeper on loan had a fitness problem while preparing for UEFA Nations League action with Slovakia.

Dubravka joined Erik ten Hag’s side on loan from Newcastle United last summer and has one competitive game remaining for the Red Devils.

He competes with David De Gea for the No 1 shirt at Old Trafford but his injury will be a major setback for the player.

Despite this, Manchester United fans have taken the time to mock the Slovakia goalkeeper, claiming that they don’t want him.

Here are some reactions from Twitter from fans mocking his early return from international break:

The Slovak made 130 appearances for Newcastle before joining Manchester United.

He kept 37 clean sheets in those games and was praised for his shot-stopping skills.

According to Sky Sports, United will pay a £6million fee if the goalkeeper makes a series of appearances that see his move become permanent.

However, the injury he picked up on international duty will potentially jeopardize any plans for the veteran keeper to remain at Old Trafford.

He was signed after two unconvincing performances by De Gea in the Red Devils’ first two defeats by Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

The Spaniard has improved in front of him with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in a centre-back partnership.

It’s evident that Ten Hag’s side will need to replace De Gea sooner rather than later.

The Spain goalkeeper is now 31 and the longest-serving player at Old Trafford with 495 appearances.

He joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for £22.5million.

However, his performances appear to have deteriorated over time and the Spaniard no longer seems to be the top-level goalkeeper he had been for so many years.

Who Manchester United are targeting as a permanent replacement for De Gea remains to be seen, but there are plenty of up-and-coming goalkeepers to choose from.

The Premier League features players such as Brentford’s David Raya, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Robert Sanchez and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier.

Meanwhile, the likes of FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan are impressing abroad.
