Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Set to Play in Independence Bowl

For the first time in school history, the Ragin’ Cajun football team from Louisiana will play in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl.
On the afternoon of December 23, Louisiana (6-6) meets the Houston Cougars (7-5) of the American Athletic Conference.

The Independence Bowl began in 1976 and is played annually in December at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.

It is the first game between Louisiana and Houston on the gridiron since 2006 and the tenth in history. The Cougars have won 6 of the contests, with the Cajuns winning the last meeting 16 years ago.

Louisiana will play its 10th bowl game since 2011 and set a school record for the 5th straight year.
The Cajuns have won 7 of the last 9 bowls in which they have appeared.
Michael Desormeaux
Louisiana coach Michael Desormeaux has a 1-0 bowl record and led the Cajuns to a 36-21 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd in the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl last season after breaking after Billy Napier’s departure for Florida head coach had been appointed.
Louisiana and SMU kick off Friday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Independence Bowl. The radio pregame show starts at noon on 103.3 The Goat (simulcast at 2:20pm).
