Louisiana State Police Issue Evacuation Orders Due to Derailment

Louisiana State Police have ordered an evacuation after a train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed.

The derailment happened this afternoon in the community of St. James and affects areas around Louisiana Highway 642.

Louisiana State Highway 44 is not accessible to through traffic from Louisiana Highway 3193 (Louisiana Avenue) to Louisiana Highway 3214, according to WDSU.

The derailment is north of the Mississippi River near the community of Paulina, which is west of Lutcher.

Officials are asking that people stay away from the evacuation zone until the “all clear” is given.
