Lukas Nelson And Shooter Jennings Team Up For Kick*ss Live Performance Of Waylon And Willie’s “Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys”

Talk about some country music kings.

In the BeachLife Ranch Festival on the weekend in Redondo Beach, California, Luke Nelson and Protect JenningsSons of outlaw country legends Willy Nelson and Waylon Jenningshave teamed up for an amazing live performance of their father’s classic “Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys”.

The song was originally written and recorded by Ed Bruce with his wife Patsy Bruce, and the song was featured on his 1976 self-titled album. Chris LeDoux also covered it for his 1976 album, Songbook of the American West.

Of course, it was made extremely popular by Waylon and Willie when they covered it for their legendary 1978 duet album Waylon & Willie.

It eventually became a country classic, peaking at #1 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart later that same year and additionally peaking at #42 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The pair won a 1979 Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal Duet.

Lukas and Shooter have also previously recorded a duet of the tune for the ranch theme song.

This particular performance took place on Saturday night as the day was entirely devoted to the music of outlaw country legend himself (and Shooter’s father), Mr. Waylon Jennings, which is totally badass and sounds like my kind of festival.

And to see these two carry on their fathers legacy, huh Lukas actually talked about it pretty detailed on that Whiskey Riff Raff Podcast not long ago is pretty damn cool:

The iconic version of Waylon and Willie:
