Get ready to release the new album.
earlier this month, Luke combs announced that he would release a brand new 18 track album on March 24th. And he confirmed it would be 18 brand new songs, not a deluxe album following the trend of his last two releases as some suspected.
Luke just released his latest album, Grow up, back in June. And fans immediately began speculating that this would be a two-part album.
Why? Well, let’s look at the evidence:
First, Luke Combs fans know that he released an unreleased song called back in February 2021 “Growing Up and Growing Old” which became an instant fan favorite – and left many disappointed when it wasn’t included Grow up.
Then there was the album cover: Grow up showed half of Luke’s face cropped on the right side of the album, leading to speculation that the second part of the album (presumably called To become old) would complete the picture with his album cover.
Then, in December, Luke shared a clip of a studio version of the unreleased “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old,” which fueled speculation that a new album would be out soon.
Now we know that Luke is actually releasing a new album. So this will be To become old as everyone suspected?
Well, Luke just confirmed that “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old” will be on the new album, which seems to be a big indication that the internet sleuths were right about this album.
Not only that, he’s releasing the song this Friday, January 27th.
“Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old,” written by Luke along with Channing Wilson and Rob Snyder, is an all-too-relatable song about…well, growing up and getting old:
“I still go to the pubs, all only once in a blue moon
I have a wild card that I keep in my boot
I’ve been thinking about this lately, maybe I should save it
Because these hangovers are sure to kick my ass these days
I spend most of my happy hours here at home
In the midst of growing up and getting old.”
I can barely wait for it.
If I had to guess, we’ll probably get an album title, cover art and tracklist from Luke pretty soon. And if you’re a bettor, I’d say To become old is probably a pretty safe bet.
I guess we’ll know for sure soon – but at least until then, we’ve got new music to hear from Luke this week.
