The Queen made headlines for a reason other than her speech last Christmas after an intruder allegedly carrying a crossbow was arrested in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
It was reported yesterday that police have finally charged a suspect.
It comes almost eight months after the incident.
Attempt to hurt or alarm the Queen on Christmas Day
Last year on Christmas morning a man managed to breach the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Jaswant Singh Chail, a 20-year-old man from Southampton, was arrested at the site shortly afterwards.

Chail was reportedly carrying a crossbow at the time.
It is believed that he gained access to the site using a rope ladder.
Chail was initially placed under the Mental Health Act before being charged yesterday.
Intruder charged under Treason Act
Almost eight months after the incident, Chail has now been charged.
He was charged with offenses under the Treason Act.
Chail was charged with wanting to offend or alarm the Queen under Section 2 of the 1842 Act.
He was also charged with making death threats and possessing an assault weapon.
He will appear in Westminster Magistrates Court on August 17.

Nick Price, the prosecutor’s chief of special crimes and counter-terrorism, said she authorized the Met to indict Chail “after he was arrested with a crossbow in the grounds of Windsor Castle on December 25, 2021.”

The news that Chail will be charged under the Treason Act comes after reports that Her Majesty had offered another olive branch to Meghan and Harry.
The elderly monarch has reportedly invited the Sussexes and their children to stay with her and family in Balmoral.

However, according to the same source, it’s a “bittersweet” invitation for Meghan.
“It’s a bittersweet invitation for Meghan because, on the one hand, it gives her and Harry confidence that they’re still part of the family.
“But after such a long time, she fears Harry will be lured back into the herd and want to return to the UK,” the source claimed, speaking to Closer.
The source then went on to say that Meghan reportedly worries these trips could tug at Harry’s heart.
