Man shot dead and 24-year-old arrested on Tilery Estate in Norton

Police have cordoned off the entire Tilery Estate in Norton following an incident in which a man was shot dead on Tilery Road early today (Friday 8 September).

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of intentional bodily harm and is currently still in police custody.

Much of Tilery Road and Tilery shops are behind police cordons, preventing residents of the property from retrieving their cars without police assistance.

Crime scene investigators in hazmat suits arrived at the property around 5.30am this morning to gather evidence and uniformed officers remain at Norton this afternoon.

Officers will also be conducting high-visibility patrols in the area to keep the community safe.

Now police are asking any witnesses or anyone with more information to come forward and help with their appeals.

A statement from the Cleveland Police Department said: “Police have been called to report that at approximately 3.30am this morning (September 8) a man was shot on Tilery Road in Stockton.”

“A man is being treated in hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

“A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of intentional assault and remains in police custody.

“A cordon has been placed in the area and will remain in place while the investigation is ongoing.”

“Officials will also be conducting high-visibility patrols in the area to keep the community safe.
