Maneskin talks about the backlash they got for queerbaiting

The quartet – Damian David, Thomas Raggi, Victoria De Angelis and Ethan Torchio – spoke with The guard about the claims made about her choice of makeup and clothing wear.

Victoria told the newspaper that the allegations come in waves: “There are some cases where it happens, but sometimes [they are] so extreme. It’s stupid for queer people who should be fighting these stereotypes to label it that way and create more hate. The fact [that Thomas and Damiano] Being straight doesn’t mean they can’t wear makeup. Or heels.”

damiano adding that “everything that me and Thomas do is always filtered by two people who are [queer]. Of course we don’t experience the same thing, but we live very closely with people from the community every day.”

The band also revealed that they are still getting backlash after winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

“We have always been very divisive” damiano divided. “There’s a lot of people who love us and are very proud of what we do, and then there’s a whole different part that’s made up of conservatives and traditional rock ‘n’ roll fans and fascists who support us hate everything they have.”

Victoria then added that there are a lot of “People are really proud. But Italy is a very conservative country and they are intimidated by the fact that someone can wear makeup or high heels or appear semi-nude or not be straight. But screw them.”
