Mark Rylance to miss Jerusalem performances as brother killed in car crash

Sir Mark said in a statement: “I am so sorry to report that my dear brother Jonathan Waters was thrown off his bike on May 28 and tragically died of his injuries.

“In order to be able to attend his funeral in California, I unfortunately have to miss three performances of Jerusalem on June 11th and 12th.

“Unfortunately, since I don’t have an understudy as Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron, those performances have been cancelled.

“Sonia Friedman Productions, along with Nimax, are arranging additional performances at the end of the scheduled run to try to accommodate all those affected.

“I hope you understand my need to mourn my beloved brother and thank you for your support at this time. I hope you can attend another performance of Jerusalem.”

Sonia Friedman Productions, Nimax and the Jerusalem company said their “support and thoughts” are with Sir Mark.

Sir Mark also has a sister, Susannah. The three siblings were born in Kent.

He is married to Claire van Kampen. His stepdaughter Nataasha van Kampen died unexpectedly in 2012 at the age of just 28. Mark Rylance to miss Jerusalem performances as brother killed in car crash
